Finally the “BIG” order from Oshkosh arrived – the engine. We took advantage of the show special from Van’s, and ordered a Lycoming engine and Hartzell prop together.
Here are the specs:
Engine: Lycoming YIO-360-M1B, 180 hp @ 2700 RPM, 8.5:1 compression, horizontal induction.
Prop: Hartzell HC-C2YR-1BFP/F7497 aluminum blended airfoil, compact hub, constant-speed, 74” diameter.
Although both of these items are sold by Van’s, we had a heck of a time getting anyone at Hartzell to sign off on whether or not these two components would work together, since they aren’t listed in Hartzell’s standard Application Guide (I think because the (X/Y)IO-360 is an experimental engine).
However, we eventually did receive an official confirmation letter from the Hartzell engineering department stating that this combination would be satisfactory and free from vibration, subject to the following limitation: “Continuous operation is prohibited above 24 inches manifold pressure between 2350 and 2550 RPM.”
